Basic Electronic Components

  Every electronic circuit whether it is simple or complex is built from a set of fundamental components. These components may be divided into two broad categories; passive or active.  In the passive category there are resistors, capacitors inductors and the like. Within the active group there are transistors, thyristors, op-amps and a multitude of integrated circuits whose range and complexity is too varied to even contemplate summarising. Within this section we will concentrate on presenting the simplest and most commonly used components which are used in the majority of electronic circuits whatever the purpose.
